Travers Nash (AU)

director

Artist Statement of Travers Nash:

My Studio practice is an investigation into our contemporary relationship with the technological object. In particular, I seek to explore the possibilities of technology within the framework of the embodied sonic event; examining the phenomenologies associated with the interaction between sound, object and subjective viewer. My ongoing research focus is on communicative possibilities. Rather than prioritizing the use of technology as a device of control I am researching methods by which technology is subordinated into a role where it serves only to highlight inter-personal communicative possibilities.

My research has shown that sound and consciousness both operate on principles of resonance and feedback, and potentially symbiotic feedback mechanisms can operate between consciousness and technological object through the medium of sound.

Through my studio based arts practice, I seek to explore the possibilities of creating directly engaging interrelationships using the technological object in new creative roles, bringing down the boundaries between viewer and object.
