“Konsepti ’Epäröinti voi hidastaa päätöksentekoa’ tuo yhteen kolme elokuvantekijää, jotka ovat parhaillaan kehittämässä uusia teoksiaan. He hyödyntävät epätäydellisyyden, tietämättömyyden ja rajojen ylittämisen käsitteitä pohtiessaan elokuvanteon parametreja erilaisissa performatiivisissa toimissa.
Daksofonin huminan ja vesieläinten hiljaisten liikkeiden säestämänä Maria Ångerman kysyy: milloin ihminen tulee alkuperäiskansalaiseksi – ja kenellä on oikeus määritellä se? Kuuntelemalla ja kääntämällä vanhoja äänitteitä sekä keittämällä teetä Azar Saiyar etsii tapoja päästä lähelle näiden sanojen ja eleiden takana olevia elettyjä elämiä, jotka ovat sekä henkilökohtaisia että historiallisia. Lotta Petronella saapuu kutsumatta ja esittää rapin, rukouksen, joka keskittyy Jeanne d’Arcin epäröintiin jakaa äänensä.”

“The framework “Hesitation can slow down decision-making” brings together three filmmakers that are in a process of developing new work, using concepts of imperfection, not knowing and boundary-crossing while pondering on the parameters of filmmaking in different performative acts.
To the drones of the daxophone and the quiet stirrings of aquatic beings, Maria Ångerman is asking, when does one become native – and who has the right to define that? Through listening and translating old recordings and making tea, Azar Saiyar is searching for ways to get close to the lived lives behind these words and gestures that are both personal and historical. Lotta Petronella comes in uninvited, performing a rap, a prayer, that attends to the i and eye of Joan of Arc’s hesitation of sharing her voices.”

“Ramverket ’Tvekan kan bromsa beslutsfattandet’ sammanför tre filmskapare som just nu arbetar med att utveckla nya verk, där de utgår från begrepp som ofullkomlighet, ovisshet och gränsöverskridande samtidigt som de reflekterar över filmskapandets ramar i olika performativa handlingar.
Till daxofonens surrande toner och vattenvarelsernas stilla rörelser ställer Maria Ångerman frågan: när blir man infödd – och vem har rätten att definiera det? Genom att lyssna på och översätta gamla inspelningar och koka te söker Azar Saiyar efter sätt att närma sig de levda liv som döljer sig bakom dessa ord och gester, som är både personliga och historiska. Lotta Petronella dyker upp oinbjuden och framför en rap, en bön, som uppmärksammar det ”i” och det ”öga” i Jeanne d’Arcs tvekan att dela med sig av sina röster.
Maria Ångerman’s artistic practice explores human entanglements with more-than-human worlds, particularly in liminal zones where boundaries between species, elements and temporalities become porous. By moving between scientific observation and poetic speculation, she creates immersive situations that invite the audience to slow down and reconsider their position within ecological systems marked by vulnerability and change.
Azar Saiyar (b.1979) is a filmmaker and media artist whose art is often based on various kinds of archives. She researches and challenges the found material, by watching, listening, playing and getting lost in the details. Her films have been screened at international film and media art festivals, galleries, exhibitions, museums and from television. She received the AVEK Award for media art in 2022.
Lotta Petronella is a filmmaker, artist and curator based on an island in Finland. She is co- founder of CAA Contemporary Art Archipelago and has worked with and on islands for nearly two decades. Since her internationally awarded film Själö – Island of Souls (2020), she has been leading a multidisciplinary collaborative research Själö Poeisis on the island of Seili. Her latest work Materia Medica of Islands was a new commission for Helsinki Biennial in 2023. In addition to her filmmaking and art practice, Petronella is a devoted medicine and flower essence maker and tarot scholar. She also writes poems, makes soundscapes and runs a podcast called Little screams.
