Titanik A.i.R Epilogues | Chelsea Leventhal

director

This residency was made possible with support from Culture Moves Europe.

“I used the time at Titanik to continue with my work on the sonic construction of home and the domestic soundscape, in particular a “sonic mapping” in which hidden realities and emotional states that can be revealed and explored through the auditory. Right now I am particularly interested in the interior spaces of the homes we encounter in our dreams, with their infinite hallways and staircases, or undiscovered rooms that are simultaneously familiar and unfamiliar. I have created a new sound and video installation in which granular fragments of sounds recorded in hallways, stairwells, behind doors and through windows (many in the building of the residency apartment!) are paired with heavily reshaped floor plans that are constantly expanding, contracting, disappearing. My hope is to complete this work with fragments of dialogue that discuss such dreams and how we can interpret the manifestations of domestic space that appear.”
