“March has 5 Saturdays ~ I spent one month in the artist residency offered by Titanik. Having never been to Finland and vicinity, it had been quite an experience to discover Turku in its old and new. The residency was self-directed, and it offered me the space to contemplate on my practice as a sound and performing artist, and conceptualize a work based on children’s folklores (Bengali) on grief. Coming from a traditional (Bengali) musical background and having a newly developed practice of sound and media art, I had been longing within the two mediums, and experiment with vocal techniques, voices, noise and sound, and scripting non linear narratives on the core concepts. I wouldn’t claim that my work has reached completion with my intentions or desires yet, however, the residency has provided me with the opportunity to intuitively do what I would really like to, offering a space to engage experimental pursuits without the weight of excessive explanation. Lastly, and most importantly, all the people I have met in Turku, whether in the residency or outside, have been sincerely welcoming of me, the community is incredible and it has been a lovely period of exchange.
During the residency, I gave an artist talk to the Sound Art students from the Turku University and presented a performance, as part of an event curated for the end of my residency.”
