Titanik A.i.R Epilogue | Minerva Juolahti

director

During the November residency at Titanik, I worked on my long-term artistic process that deals with the human voice in the processes of remembering and forgetting. For the first two weeks, I approached the voice with my two children who are in different stages of their voice processes. First, I was accompanied by a one-year-old human creature with no words but many other explorative ways of using their voice. Then by a three-year-old human creature full of words and still an open way of exploring the possibilities of their voice.
After the small human creatures left, I encountered the silence. The continuous repetitive meditative rhythm of using my voice and listening to theirs, the rhythm of making and listening the voice in between us was gone. And I continued working with the process in a more conceptual and paper-oriented way, sitting alone in a room reading, writing, thinking, making voice experiments with my own voice.
I also explored many other ways of using the voice: I had the privilege of talking in front of a lovely audience comprised out of the students of Turku UAS in the context of an artist talk, I was fortunate enough to make my performance ei vielä ei enää / not yet no more [a one hour long performative gesture for three looper pedals and human voice in the space and in the radio] at the back space of the Titanik gallery.
I was lucky enough to make an interview with Antti-Juhani Manninen on the history of the Titanik sonic arts residency for our radio programme äänes at IDA radio.
I had a lovely chance to talk with old friends and new friends from Turku and from other places, I saw many lovely performances, installations, and other art works. My old important Turku memories were layered with many new important ones. The month was amazing, exhausting, intense, important, spacious, full. I want to thank everyone who was part of the month, and especially the fabulous staff of Titanik and the people of Arte! And thank you to Koneen Säätiö for supporting the artistic adventures!
