OPEN CALL FOR LITHUANIA BASED ARTISTS: A RESIDENCY AT TITANIK IN FINLAND

director

This residency is realised as part of an exchange between SODAS 2123 (Lithuania) and Titanik A.i.R (Finland).

Residency period: April – May 2026 Residency at Titanik, Turku

Who can apply

This call is for Lithuania based artists working in the field(s) of sound and sonic practices or the intersection of sound with performance and/or digital media.

About the residency

Titanik (Turku, Finland) and SODAS 2123 (Vilnius, Lithuania) invite emerging and established artists based in Lithuania to apply for a two month residency based in Turku, during Spring 2026. The residency does not require the production of new works, or an exhibition output. The focus of the residency is to provide time and space to temporarily lean away from the intensities of daily routines, to focus on artistic research and to begin a collaborative dialogue with the local art scenes.

In 2026, the Titanik A.i.R. programme hosts sound artists and collectives from diverse geopolitical backgrounds, with a specific thematic focus on the sonic exploration of new—more ethical—ways of living, thinking, and working together. The programme approaches sound as a material phenomenon that is inherently connective and grounded in listening. It is informed by the understanding that sound traverses boundaries often imagined as impenetrable or permanent, whether political or material. The Titanik A.i.R. programme is interested in sound as a space of collectivity and community building, and seeks sonic practices that function as space-making tools—capable of fostering mutually challenging and enriching conversations, as well as expansive social spaces for critical thinking.

About Titanik

Titanik is a contemporary art space located in Turku on the Southwestern coast of Finland. Established in 1988 by the artist-run organization Arte Ry, Titanik aims to create a space for unexpected encounters, artistic dialogue and critical discussion. Titanik plays a significant role in the Finnish contemporary art scene and cultural policy and in addition to exhibitions, hosts a variety of open public and project-based events, such as concerts, talks and performances. Since 2006 Titanik A.i.R annually hosts local and international artists and researchers in Turku as the only artist residency.

Residency conditions

For the duration of the residency, an artist or a duo has access to a working studio (20m2) adjoining the contemporary art space Titanik and its library, located in the city centre of Turku. Residents are welcome to use Titanik’s audiovisual equipment during their stay (availability depends on Titanik’s exhibition programme). The residents are also provided free accommodation in a fully equipped 25m2 studio apartment close to the city center, within walking distance from Titanik. The apartment is suitable for one person or a couple. Unfortunately, the apartment is not wheelchair accessible.

The residency programme provides coverage of the resident’s travel expenses and includes a grant of 1,000 EUR to support the artist during their stay. Residents are responsible for their own other living and working expenses, including food, local transportation, and production materials. The artist must take care of the necessary insurances and cover the costs of any illness. Titanik will gladly provide invitation and reference letters for the selected applicant(s).
